Kolkata: West Bengal recorded highest single-day Covid-19 spike this year with 1, 957 new cases in the past 24 hours.
With the cases continuing to rise, the tally has now reached 5,93,615. The death toll rose to 10,344. Kolkata reported the highest number of fresh cases at 534.
At least 644 recoveries were reported in the state over the past 24 hours, taking the total number of people who have recuperated from the disease to 5,73,118.
As many as 92,51,465 samples have been tested in West Bengal so far.
The spurt — sharpest since cases started dropping last October — is expected to continue as more tests are conducted following a Holi-induced lull.
No case of ‘adverse event following immunization’ (AEFI) was reported from anywhere in the state.
The inoculation process will be underway all 30 days in April, including gazetted holidays, at the designated Covid vaccination centers.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today chaired a high-level meeting to review the Covid-19 situation and vaccination program in the country.
He mentioned that the five-fold strategy of testing, tracing, treatment, Covid-appropriate behaviour and vaccination would be effective in curbing the spread of the pandemic if implemented with utmost seriousness and commitment.
